Sometimes I quite heart what husbands do. As I have mentioned in previous posts, I am working on a graduate degree at the moment. The end is coming into sight as I will be finished in December 2011. I am getting pretty excited to be done. In the meantime though, I have been trying to figure out a way to go paperless due to the amount of PDF files and WORD documents that seem to come reaming out of our printer every week. There has to be a better way. Doesn’t there?

Enter the surprise gift from my dear hubby: The latest generation Kindle, newly available in Canada. I am officially paperless. YAHOO!

The added benefit is that I can knit simple garter stitch or St st while reading books because I don’t have to hold a book open and I can make the typeface larger. Genius! I have even added some of my current knitting patterns to Miss Kindle and I fully intend to go paperless for my knitting patterns as well. Annotating and adding notes is easy.

I was torn between all the different e-readers out there and was the main reason why I hadn’t made a decision prior to now – I am actually glad that my husband just ordered me one and made the decision for me. Part of the reason it was a tough decision is that I love books and own plenty. My husband is a lover of the library. I have realized recently that an e-reader doesn’t replace all that but it does open up alternatives for things like the amount of paper wasted with school work or printing needlessly when there may be a better alternative. I will let you know how it goes and what I end up thinking.

ruffled.

Here at Casa de Welford things are a little ruffled. School started up again on Tuesday. Work has been quite busy as, on top of my regular position, I am orientating at a new centre – a big trauma ICU (yikes!). And, there remain unfinished projects from the summer.

In an effort to eliminate further ruffling and stress, I have been working on finishing projects that I have had on the needles for some time or through the summer. No casting on! There is a great sense of satisfaction in finishing projects when knitting time is seriously limited. I’m sure you would agree!

As I look towards the semester ahead, I look down at my knitting and realize I have a new fall cardigan almost off the needles:

It completely expresses how I feel about this Fall, and while I look forward to the months ahead, I also feel the sense of pressure and busy-ness mounting. So ruffles on a cardigan are just what this nurse has ordered!
